Week 2 - Shots and angles

Examples of shots and angles

Establishing shot (How to train your dragon)

 Wide shot (Alice in Wonderland)

Midshot (Interstellar)

Medium closeup (Inception)

 Closeup (Atlantis)

  High angle (Brave)

 Low angle (The 100)

 Birds-eye view (Supernatural)

Week 2 - The Sock

We had to make a 5 frame storyboard with the title "The Sock" I've started with an establishing shot of the drawer where the story takes place. In the next picture we see socks boasting about their "scars" - holes. The 3rd frame directs attention towards that one sock that has no holes. In the 4th frame the damaged socks are teaming up to beat up the one hole-less sock and the last one is a close up of the sock's scared/worried expression.
The most difficult part was probably making a story that can fit into 5 frames. There are some things that could've been clearer, for example if I added some shadows in the 4th frame it would be a lot more obvious what's going on.

Week 2 - bouncy ball

In this lesson we focused on timing in animation and practiced by animating a bouncing ball. I have, once again, worked with Karolina. I have worked on the first 19 frames and she has worked on the remaining 19 frames. We've made it seem like the ball is bouncing away (or at least we've tried). I've tried to use the squash and stretch principle but I've accidentally squashed the ball where I should've stretched it and even though the animation is too short for it to be too visible I'm sure it would've been better if I had done it right.
Even though the ball is speeding up/slowing down in the right places I feel like the bouncing looks a bit unnatural. But considering it's only our second animation I think it's not too bad.

Week 2 - sketchbooks

When I found out we were doing sketchbooks I was very happy because I'm a crafty person and very much into everything DIY. I've made my own sketchbook before but all these techniques were new to me. I don't usually draw on coloured paper but since I've already used it to make these sketchbooks I might as well try it.

Week2 - Life drawing

This was my first time doing life drawing so I was a bit worried about how I'd do, but it went better than I expected.

 20min, pencil

Considering this was the first drawing it's not too bad, but immediately after finishing I've noticed how disproportionate it is, especially the legs. I've spent too much time on details such as hands and then I didn't have enough time to fix more important things.

left to right: 2,5min, 5min, 10min, pencil

The 10min one was manageable, not my best work, but could've been worse. The worst of the three was probably the 5min one as I've changed the proportions like 3 times and they were always wrong.

15min, pencil, blind drawing

Blind drawings are always fun because I know the result will be bad so there is no pressure to get anything right.

15min, charcoal, semi-blind

Composition definitely could've been better in this one. I was worried it wouldn't fit and it ended up being too small. I've also squished her a bit, resulting in some things not fitting.

10min, charcoal, liner, gold sharpie

I'm not too happy with this one. I almost forgot to change mediums and her legs are way off.

20min, charcoal, non-dominant hand

I do try to draw with my right hand from time to time so this wasn't too challenging, but it felt unnatural anyway. I should've made her smaller so her legs would fit on the page, but it could've been worse.

30min, pencil, charcoal

Even though this should be the best drawing I feel like it could've been better than this. I wanted to use charcoal for her hair but spent so much time shading her back I didn't have time to finish it and now it looks like some unfinished scribble.

Week 1 - Homework: Self portrait

This proved to be harder than I'd expected.
I'm not very good at portraits and a self portrait was even more challenging. The main problem was probably that I don't see myself objectively and even though I saw myself in the mirror I kept trying to draw what I think I look like.
I wish I had spent more time on the sketch and made sure everything fits in the beginning because it would've been a lot easier to fix at that stage. Unfortunately, as is typical for me, I have rushed through that part and started shading while the sketch wasn't even done yet.
The end result is not too bad, but there are things that just don't fit. My face is too long, the eyes are too big and the shadow on my forehead is a little too dark. My favourite part is probably the hair, which is technically unfinished, but I just like it this way so I left it as it is.
